Our Desire to Adopt

A year after being married we were excited to begin our family. Being young and healthy, the thought of infertility had never crossed our minds. As the door to getting pregnant closed, another possibility opened. It became clear to us that open adoption was the best choice to build our family.

In 2007, after three years of praying and waiting, we received a call that a premature baby girl had been born and needed a family. We instantly fell in love with our daughter Ella and realized we had waited for the child of our dreams! Although we were hoping for a fully open adoption that involved ongoing contact, Ella’s birthmother wasn't ready for this just yet. In anticipation of the day when she feels more comfortable, we have continued to make a special photo album for her of Ella’s adventures and we will always leave the door open for an ongoing relationship in the future.

We have no way of knowing when another child will come into our family, but we do know that we will love them unconditionally and will raise them to appreciate the selfless gift of adoption as much as we do.
